Asbury Track and Field soars at NCCAA indoor National Championships

Led by standout performances from Wes Preston and Bailey Gassmann, the Eagles left a mark with their record-breaking achievements and impressive placements at the NCCAA Indoor National Championships held in Cedarville, Ohio.

Preston, a senior standout, shattered the men’s 3000-meter school record previously held by Justin Spoon. Preston’s accomplishment marked a personal milestone and exemplified the legacy of leadership fostered within the team.

Brendan Funke and John Rahbany also delivered remarkable performances, achieving significant personal bests in the shot put and long jump. Their efforts contributed crucial points to Asbury’s overall standing in the championships.

The men’s team further solidified their presence with notable relay performances. The 4x800m relay team, comprised of Sam Webb, Luke Holton, Davis Brown, and Cameron Tapp, set a new school record while securing a commendable fifth-place finish.

The weekend saw an impressive tally of 11 school records broken by the Eagles, reflecting the team’s dedication to excellence and continuous improvement. From relay events to individual performances, each record shattered was a testament to Asbury’s commitment to raising the bar in track and field.

The Asbury women’s team exhibited excellence, with freshman sensation Bailey Gassmann leading the charge. Gassmann’s stellar performances in the mile and 3000-meter run, including setting a new school record, underscored her exceptional talent and promise for the future.

Brooke O’Carroll’s contribution in the mile and the impressive 4x400m relay performance further bolstered the women’s team standings, showcasing their depth and resilience on the national stage.
