It is once again time for the Music Department’s annual Sounds of Stage and Screen. The annual event features music from popular movies, TV shows, musicals and video games performed by groups such as Men’s Glee Club, handbell choir, concert band and a variety of other campus music groups.
This concert takes a different approach than many Asbury performances, offering a mix of music that stands out from the usual program. It brings in a variety of pieces that feel more familiar to a general audience, making it a bit more accessible while still being distinct from other concerts.
“This is a really fun evening of music most people are familiar with, and is a lot different than most concerts as it takes a different route from the normal Asbury musical program. Many people will find that they recognize tunes from this concert, so students are encouraged to come out and see renditions being played or sung,” said William Hansen, a performer in the concert.
This year’s program will feature an orchestral medley of “How to Train Your Dragon,” a handbell piece featuring “Under the Sea,” “Mambo” from West Side Story and more.
The concert also gives students the chance to perform music that audiences may already know, which sets it apart from more traditional performances. While still highlighting the work of the ensembles, Songs of Stage and Screen offers a program that feels a bit more familiar and approachable for those attending.
Sounds of Stage and Screen will take place on April 16, in Jameson Recital Hall from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
