Newest ‘Bachelor’ contestant a bore

“The Bachelor” is a pillar of Asbury community life, whether we like it or not. Each Monday night, Twitter is overrun with tweets exposing the latest lie or reacting to the latest drama. The campus watch parties have gotten so big this year that a group started reserving the WGM student center in order to get everyone comfortably in one place. That’s no small thing.

But does this season of “The Bachelor” deserve all the campus hype it’s getting? Most definitely not. From the very first episode, viewers complained that there was a shortage of likable contestants. The first impression rose went to Hannah Ann, but the honeymoon period lasted less than an episode thanks to the famous “Champagne Fiasco” (or finasco, if you will). Many Asbury students favored Alexa, affectionately known as Waxer Girl, for the first few episodes. However, with such little screen time, no one even seemed to notice when she got eliminated a few weeks ago.

Not one of the girls this season has received enough positive screen time to earn fan favoritism, but this has less to do with the fact that the women are subpar and more to do with the fact that Peter is giving the editors absolutely nothing to work with. We all knew Peter was white-bread-boring from the beginning, but it’s reached a new level. The editors have tried to distract us with windmills and his Cuban heritage, but no movie magic can hide the fact that this man is deeply uninteresting.

And Peter’s not just boring; he’s also immature. It’s no secret that Peter has very little interest in talking to the women on the show. It seems that every time he gets a chance alone with them, he uses the same compliments he’s used 25 times already and then goes straight in for the kiss and does not let up. Not even for a moment. While yes, I understand that this is America and usually we love that stuff, it’s boring now. I can only watch so much before I lose all interest.

Peter also shows a lack of readiness for the stress of being the bachelor in his decision making. You will have to excuse me, but at this point I must bring in the enneagram. (Please hold your frustrated sighs.) Peter is a textbook 9; he seems completely unable to make a decision for himself. When he tries and the contestants complain, he immediately backtracks and does whatever they demand. This is classic unhealthy enneagram 9 behavior, and this man needs to integrate or get out.

I have watched quite a few seasons of “The Bachelor” and I can say, without a doubt, that this is by far the worst. I find myself bored and disinterested the entire time. There’s really only so much footage of Kelsey crying that I can watch before I start to lose my mind. My only hope is that the producers can find a way to dig us out of this pit. With so few girls left, there is still hope that our interest will be piqued once again. We are all waiting in anticipation.
