Asbury University Excels at Centre Twilight Meet

Asbury University’s men’s and women’s track and field teams showcased their exceptional talent at the Centre Twilight Meet in Danville, KY. on Friday, April 13, 2024. The Eagles delivered an outstanding performance, securing four top-five finishes, including a notable first-place title and a new school record.

The men’s 4×800 relay team, comprising Wes Preston, Sam Webb, Luke Holton and Davis Brown, demonstrated remarkable teamwork and speed on the track, clinching the gold medal in their event. Their victory underscored the depth of talent and dedication within the Asbury track program.

Freshman standout John Rahbany continued to make waves in the collegiate track scene, setting yet another school record in the long jump with an impressive distance of 6.65 meters (21 feet 9.75 inches). Rahbany’s consistent success speaks volumes about his potential and the bright future of Asbury’s track and field program.

In addition to Rahbany’s record-breaking performance, Brendan Funke, another freshman standout, showcased his prowess in the shot put, securing a third-place finish with a season-best throw of 13.40 meters (43 feet 11.5 inches). Funke’s dedication and improvement highlight the depth of talent within the Eagles’ roster.

On the women’s side, Bailey Gassmann, a freshman sensation, displayed her speed and endurance with an impressive second-place finish in the 800 meters, clocking in at 2 minutes and 27.23 seconds. Gassmann’s versatility was further evident as she secured a fourth-place finish in the 1500 meters, highlighting her potential as a middle-distance runner.

Looking ahead, the Eagles are gearing up for their final meet of the regular season at Mount St. Joseph University on April 20 before setting their sights on the NCCAA Outdoor Nationals.
