Academic success continues to be a priority for Asbury University student-athletes, with more than 190 athletes earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2025 Fall semester and earning a place on the Dean’s List. This achievement marked the seventh consecutive semester Asbury Athletics recorded a cumulative GPA about 3.36.
Sophomore volleyball player Sophie Glushchak was among those recognized. In addition to the Dean’s List, she also received an Academic All-District award selected by College Sports Communicators. This honor is given to students who are at least sophomores, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have competed in either 90% of their team’s games or started in 66% of their team’s games.
“I’m honored to have received this reward,” Glushchak said. “It’s special to know that people recognize my hard work. Many times athletes don’t feel like their work is noticed, so being recognized means a lot and continues to motivate me.”
It can be a struggle to manage playing a college sport while maintaining high academic standards, but Glushchak has found a way to remain balanced.
“A habit that helps me is to focus on one task at a time and be 100% present in whatever I’m doing. If I’m at practice, I’m only thinking about volleyball and what I can do to be better. This not only gives my mind a break from studying, but it also allows me to enjoy my time, and understand what I’m being coached on,” said Glushchak.
Men’s soccer captain Aiden Fish also earned Dean’s List honors during the fall semester. He takes pride in preparing himself for life beyond soccer and says the habits being built now will carry him long after his college sports career ends.
“Soccer has taught me accountability, focus and consistency, which all carry over into the classroom and life,” said Fish.
As team captain, Fish emphasizes academic accountability among the other students on the team.
“My role is to lead by example and help create a team culture where academics matter just as much as our performance on the field,” said Fish.
The 2026 spring semester Dean’s List is expected to be announced after grades are submitted on May 5.
