“Peacemaking and the Gaza-Israel Conflict” Event

To provide a space for Asbury students to understand and discuss the ongoing conflict in Gaza, an event titled “Peacemaking and the Gaza-Israel Conflict” will take place on Wednesday March 27 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and food will be provided.

The event will be hosted in the Kinlaw Board Room and will feature three panelists who will each give insights from their disciplines. The three panelists will be Dr. Alex Mayfield, Assistant Professor of History; Dr. Steve Clements, Dean of the College of Arts and Science, Professor of Political Science, and Department Chair; and Dr. Glenn Harden, Assistant Professor of Political Science and History.

Each panelist will give a ten-minute presentation on different aspects of the conflict which will be followed by a 10–15-minute Q&A.

Dr. Mayfield will be speaking about the theological and historical paradigms of the conflict, followed by Dr. Clements who will focus on US perspectives including domestic politics and roadblocks to peace, and finish with Dr. Harden who will speak on incentive structures around terror and the road to making peace.

The event is open to all Asbury students and is focused on providing a meaningful space for discussion surrounding a complex topic. There will be a focus on what Asbury students can do to further peace efforts and the opportunity to continue the discussion in the future.
