Welcome Back Bash

Asbury University kicked off the Spring 2024 semester in style with the Welcome Back Bash. Hosted by the Student Activities Cabinet, or SAC, the event brought the student body together in the Student Center on Friday night.

Mood lighting and upbeat music greeted students when they entered the Student Center, along with the friendly faces of SAC members. Pizza, wings, and Ale8 were also provided as refreshments for the event.

The event featured a sticker scavenger hunt to promote community and student interaction, as students were given stickers and then instructed to find the person with the matching one.

Current Freshman Kyley Tipton shared, “I did feel like the matching stickers were a good idea to get people to know each other. Maybe add “Using” here just to help it flow betterThe tickets to pick a song was a good idea as well because they could eliminate a DJ, and there was less pressure for good songs”

In addition to the sticker hunt, the event utilized tickets as a means of allowing the student body to choose the music for their event, allowing for crowd engagement in a new way, as well as ensuring an upliftinguplighting and excitingexiting atmosphere.

Events like the Welcome Back Bash are meant to give students a chance to reconnect after a long break before the semester gets busy. Junior Morgan Clark shared her experience with connecting with friends during the event, stating, “I enjoyed being able to see friends I don’t regularly see, and have a way to connect with people during the long weekend.”

As the event took place during the weekend of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, SAC’s event brought on-campus students together, especially as travel plans were changed due towith inclement weather.

The Student Activities page on Asbury’s official site gives a snapshot of the organization and its purpose. “Life on campus happens both inside and outside the classroom, and the Student Activities Cabinet helps fill the outside-the-classroom world with opportunities for connection, belonging, fun, and memory-making. SAC creates vibrant, enjoyable, and varied events for all students to attend.”

Under the leadership of SAC Staff Advisor Elizabeth Louden, SAC will have even more events for students to participate in, ensuring a lively and vibrant campus life, even in the cold beginnings of the spring.
