Volleyball looks to rebound in ’23

The Asbury Eagles volleyball season is on the horizon. Players began practice when students arrived back on campus in anticipation of the upcoming 2023 campaign. The women finished 5-15 last year, posting a 2-4 record defending their home court. Their season ended late October as they dropped three sets to University of the Cumberlands (KY).

Asbury is currently set to compete in three invitationals, along with exhibition matches.

“This team is going to represent Christ in our positive attitude, in our hard work ethic and our interactions with other teams,” freshman defensive specialist and libero Ariana Bluestein said.

The 2023 roster is freshman heavy compared to the senior dominant squad last year.

“We have a really young team right now, but I know that they are all pretty good. I’m feeling a lot of wins coming,” senior Brynna Reynolds said.

Tiffany Horton is entering her second season as head coach, assisted by Jordan Horne and Hanna Hostetler.

“We are thrilled to welcome 12 new student-athletes to our roster this 2023 season! I can’t wait to see what God has in store for these young ladies and am looking forward to watching them grow and develop their game this season,” Horton told asburyeagles.com. Coach Horton has previous coaching experience at Transylvania University and Lexington Christian Academy before taking this role at Asbury last season.

AU will open up the season at the Berea Invitational against the University of Lynchburg today at 5 p.m.. Lynchburg finished 15-12 last season and will be looking to take on Asbury for the first time. This match will be followed up by competitions against The College of Wooster and Berea College tomorrow. Notable matches for this season include Kentucky State University Sept. 13 and Oct. 11, Grove City College Sept. 23 and Transylvania University Oct. 4.
