Jessamine County Public Library going mobile this summer

During its annual Black History Month Celebration on Feb. 26, staff at Jessamine County Public Library announced that they have purchased an RV, with plans to go mobile with the library’s services.

The RV has been titled “Jessamine Events Mobile,” or “JEM,” and will be traveling throughout the Jessamine County community over the summer.

One of the first initiatives announced for JEM is the Pandemic Stories Project. This project seeks to gather noteworthy community stories that took place over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be gathered through the use of the RV.

“We really want to hear what’s happened in your lives over the past couple of years from the COVID-19 pandemic, be it happy, sad, rain or shine, we hope that you will share your stories with us,” said Kimber Gray, Marketing & PR Coordinator for the library, during the announcement of JEM and the Pandemic Stories Project. “We hope to preserve them in the ‘Kentucky’s Historical Society’s oral history archive’ so that folks outside of the community, and maybe even outside of Kentucky, can understand a little bit more about life here in Jessamine County.”

Gray said JEM’s first event will be a pre-introduction in late April, to be held during Sports Opening Day at Nicholasville’s City/County Park, after which JEM will begin its mobile operations.
