Governors move to set reopening dates

More than 97% of American citizens, according to CNN, are currently under stay-at-home orders, but many are asking when the orders will be lifted and when life will return to normal.

President Donald Trump has shared new federal guidelines for restarting the economy as an outline of what the next phase of the reopening process is going to look like.

This is going to be a gradual process. The reopening of the economy and the potential end of social distancing is nothing to rush into, since there is still a great deal of uncertainty revolving around COVID-19.

Across the country, governors are communicating and forming pacts. They are highlighting the importance of using science and advice from health care professionals, rather than politicians, when it comes to making the decisions about COVID-19.

The governors have released statements as to what the reopening process will look like in their states in particular, and while many had targeted May 1 as the day to lift the stay-at-home order, the plan for reopening looks different from state to state.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said, “Kentucky will try to ease restrictions each week for four weeks beginning May 11.” But in Nevada, Governor Steve Sisolak is extending the state’s stay-at-home order, according to an article by local ABC affiliate KTNV. The order was previously set to end April 30; a new end date has not been announced.

After many weeks of being stuck in our homes, something that resembles normal might finally be in sight.
