Hitting the books: 3 tips for midterm studying

Although it feels as if the semester has just begun, midterms are already upon us. With
so much to learn in such little time, here are a few tips to make the most of your study
time:
Use Quizlet:
Quizlet is a free online study tool that offers multiple ways to learn including flashcards,
quizzes and game modes. There are thousands of sets of flashcards already available
for your use, or you can create your own personalized set. Quizlet’s algorithm is
designed to best help students memorize the content in an easy, automated way.
Sophomore Samuel Diaz called the online resource “a true lifesaver.” The Quizlet app is
available for free in the App Store and Google Play store.
Start Early and Take Breaks:
We all know that last-minute cramming hardly ever works out in our favor. Instead,
create a study schedule ahead of time and stay true to it. Make sure to take breaks
periodically to get up and walk around, grab a snack or refill your coffee mug. Even just
one or two intentional hours of studying per day can make a significant difference in
your understanding of the material at hand. You will come out feeling prepared and
confident that you spent your time wisely.
Find a Comfortable Environment:
While some students are able to function in noisy public spaces, others confine
themselves to their dorm room in order to focus on their studies. Find an environment
that suits you well and camp out there for a few hours. There are many resources on
campus that cater to the needs of all students including group study rooms, computer
labs, designated quiet areas and the Center for Academic Excellence.
