Victim of shooting near Fayette Mall dies

LaPorscha Stringer, mother of three, died Aug. 25 at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after being shot while in her car leaving Lexington’s Fayette Mall on Aug. 23.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that the shooting happened at the intersection of Nicholasville and Wilson Downing roads. Witnesses told police that a dark-colored vehicle was stopped in front of Stringer’s car at a red light. The car made a U-turn back into the mall then pulled up next to Stringer’s vehicle and fired multiple shots.

Police believe Stringer may have known the suspect and that the shooting was a targeted event. They are currently looking for a black sedan.

According to social media, Stringer was a hairdresser who turned 30 years old Aug. 19. She recently graduated from the Barrett & Co. School of Hair Design in Nicholasville.

Stringer’s cousin, Jenni Haynes, told the Lexington Herald-Leader that Stringer had big business plans to move out of state and “make a better life for her and her children.”

“She loved her children very much and they ripped her away from them as well as everyone else that loved her,” Haynes said.

This shooting is one of several that have happened near Fayette Mall in recent months and years. Three people were shot outside Bar Louie in Fayette Mall on July 28; none of the injuries sustained were fatal.

In October 2018, a fight in the mall parking lot led to a shot being fired and the victim suffering a hand injury. In July 2017, a man was shot from a suspect in a car in the mall parking lot, and while police said the shooting was probably a targeted event, the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police urge anyone with information about these or other crimes to contact them at 859-258-3600.
