The annual Orchestra in the Stuce, or the pajama concert, event will be held Oct. 14 from 9 to 10 p.m. in the Radar Student Center (STUCE).
Every fall semester, the music department holds a 30 minute concert in the STUCE. At the concert, students will perform a wide variety of music in their pajamas. In the past, a variety of soloists have performed with the orchestra also playing pieces like “Slavoic Dance #8, Op. 46, No. 8” and “Dreame.”
“The concert presents what the orchestra has been working on so far this semester and it exposes college students to classical music in a more relaxed manner,” explained sophomore orchestra student Jessica Edwards. “Most college students wouldn’t think to go to an orchestra concert for fun, but the pajamas and casual atmosphere entice more people to come.”
Aside from the concert, various psalms and bedtime stories will be read at the event. Additionally, snacks like milk and cookies are provided at the event.
“The concert is later at night, we’re all in pajamas and bedtime stories are read to the audience,” said Edwards. “It almost has a coffee shop feel because you can hear people talking on the HICCUP side of the Stuce, and people can drink coffee and eat snacks during the concert.”
The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend. Students are also encouraged to wear their pajamas.
“I enjoy how the concert is more casual,” said Edwards. “I get to perform and play music without the additional stress of being in a formal environment.”
