The second weekend of October is chalk-full of Eagles athletic events, both on and off campus, giving the purple and white faithful ample opportunity to show out and support the school’s sports.
Cross Country
Continuing their road stretch after last week’s match at the University of Louisville, the Asbury cross country team will travel to Maryville, Tenn., on Friday, Oct. 10, to compete at Maryville College. The away meet represents their last before the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) championship at the end of the month.
Men’s Soccer
Off the heels of two straight ties, knotting their record at 6-2-2, Eagles men’s soccer are set to host Belhaven University on Saturday, Oct. 11, in a much-needed stop on their home field.
With more than a month of play still remaining, the team is working to eclipse their already impressive 10-win total from last season in what has been a mostly dominant season across the board up to now.
Women’s Soccer
The women’s soccer team, having won two straight games, have improved their record to nearly match the men’s team at 6-3-2. They’ll continue their brief slew of battles away from home with a match at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga., on Oct. 11.
Before traveling back for a home game, the team will remain in Georgia until Wednesday, Oct. 15 for a bout versus Covenant College. Road trips are generally bad news, but after stealing two in a row in that fashion, the women’s soccer team appears suited to the task.
Swimming
Before their season kicks off at the end of the month, Asbury’s swimming program will convene for their annual alumni meet in the Luce Center on Oct. 11. A precursor to the traveling schedule, this opening match sets the tone for steeper competition against opposing teams when the year fully begins.
Volleyball
Eagles volleyball are on a newly-generated tear, having won five straight matches to pull their previously dire record to a new and improved 7-6 tally. On Oct. 11, the team will play two straight games against Huntingdon College and Piedmont College, respectfully, both at home.
With a 4-1 home record to this point, Asbury’s volleyball squad faces a favorable outlook to continue building on their impressive streak of continuous wins as the mid-season tire seems to be taking opposite effect.
