English Tea will hold its second meeting of the fall semester on Oct. 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Walt and Rowena Shaw Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) SEARCH Studio.
The English Department hosts English Tea each month during both fall and spring semesters as a way for students and professors to interact outside of a formal setting. The meeting gives students space to get to know peers within their major and the English professors without the pressure from academics.
“Our hope is that students will come to English Tea to relax and socialize with peers and faculty in a casual setting,” said Professor Andrea Nasfell. “There is no program or agenda, just tea, treats and social time.”
Aside from the casual conversations, a variety of teas and snacks will be provided for the event. Students are encouraged to bring their own mugs.
Although the event typically attracts students in both creative writing and English majors, the event is open to anyone. The event has welcomed students from a variety of majors, along with alumni who have visited the meetings in the past.
“Students of any major are welcome at English Tea,” said Nasfell. “We have a base of English and creative writing students that come, but they often bring friends and roommates.”
If students cannot attend this month, there will be a final meeting for the fall semester on Nov. 3. The times and location will stay the same.
While there are many different events on campus, English Tea provides a unique opportunity for students to build connections with each other and their professors through conversation and hot drinks.
