Music department to host Guest Vocal Recital

Asbury will host a Guest Vocal Recital featuring internationally acclaimed tenor Gregory Turay on Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Jameson Recital Hall.

Gregory Turay is a well-known tenor with significant influence in the central Kentucky area. Turay is a graduate of the University of Kentucky’s prestigious opera program and has served as an adjunct voice instructor at Asbury University in the past. In addition to his notable work in Kentucky, he has received international awards and attention.

The Guest Vocal Recital was developed as part of the Sacred Music Festival, included in the celebrations for Lexington’s 250 anniversary. The Sacred Music Festival is a weeklong celebration of the music that fills Lexington’s churches, chapels and more. From Sept. 21 to 28, there will be numerous worship services and concerts across multiple locations within the Lexington area.

Turay is one of the featured performers at the Sacred Music Festival. Turay will be performing “Going Home: Sacred Roots, Living Legacy – 250 Years of Devotion in Lexington” on Sept. 24. The program he is performing at the Sacred Music Festival is the same one he will perform here at Asbury.

The event gives the opportunity for the music department to host a notable artist who has been involved with the program previously, and it gives students an opportunity to be part of a sacred event that combines faith and music.

Everyone is encouraged to come to the event. Whether you are an artist yourself or are a music lover, it will give you the opportunity to come together with your peers to experience Asbury’s part of the Lexington 250 celebration.
