Every year, the Asbury Chorale and Asbury Women’s Choir travel to Wesley Village to perform for its residents. The performance is part of the Wesley Village Master Concert Series, a program that brings a variety of entertainment to the retirement community throughout the year.
According to Women’s Choir member Lucy Cunningham, the annual visit has become a meaningful tradition for the students who participate.
“The Master Concert Series is a Wesley Village program that brings in a variety of entertainment for the residents there,” said Cunningham. “The Asbury Chorale and Women’s Choir go to perform for them once a year.”
These visits to Wesley Village aren’t just performances; they also give students the chance to meet and connect with residents.
“It’s always a super sweet time, and seeing everyone’s reactions and hearing their stories afterwards is the best part,” said Cunningham.
The performance at Wesley Village is one of several ways Asbury music students engage with the local community. Many also volunteer their time to perform during other community events.
“We do this event, as well as many of the students perform in the Wilmore Old Fashioned Christmas finale,” Cunningham said. “Everything is entirely voluntary and most people enjoy having another opportunity to sing and interact with others.”
While the Master Concert Series offers residents an afternoon of music, it also gives students a chance to share their gifts and build relationships in the broader community, giving students the opportunity to serve others through their talents.
