The Asbury Review Launch Party for Volume 66 will be held March 26 at 7 p.m. at Drinklings in downtown Wilmore.
The Asbury Review is the university’s annual, student-led literary publication that showcases fellow students’ short stories, poetry and visual art. The Review aims to give students a place to present their creative works and have their work published as an undergrad.
“The Asbury Review is our way of showing off the side of campus that creates art, writes and makes things that might not have an outlet elsewhere,” said Asbury Review Editor-in-Chief Geneva Wise.
Through the Launch Party, students are able to gather in a communal setting and celebrate both the efforts of putting The Review together and their peers’ creativity.
“The Launch Party is our best way of being able to show off these talents from campus and to have something official, because The Review is like the stage for theater majors, or like High-Bridge,” said Wise. “It’s an event that brings all of campus together to show our talents and build community, and especially strengthen our literary community.”
Additionally, at the Launch Party, both the title and the artwork for the volume will be shared.
“I cannot yet share a title, and we do have the artwork picked out for front and back,” said Wise. “I can only give a little hint, it’s something that we may already be seeing around campus somewhere, and that’s all I can say.”
While in the past there have been two editions, with one for each semester, the Review staff decided to produce only one edition for the year. The decision has led to the staff having more focus and time to “really make this edition special.”
“I think that we’re telling a story with this edition, and there are a lot of common themes that have sprung up, and so we were excited to be able to organize the pieces in a way that kind of had a start and finish,” said Wise. “There is a cohesion of sorts, and that’s always fascinating to take a community like Asbury that is so different, and see the common threads that keep us together.”
Whether students want to support their peers or be part of a creative community on campus, the Launch Party will be held on March 26. Everyone is welcome to attend and the first 50 attendees will get a free drink from Drinklings.
