Following their previous event, Kinlaw Library’s “Silent Book Club,” the library is holding another event for students to connect and bond with each other. The event is called “Research Night,” and is being held on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Lauren Ervin (née Laumus), who serves as the Research Librarian at Kinlaw, is the head of Research Night and expressed why she started the event this year.
“A lot of students have many questions regarding research,” said Ervin. “We thought that we could try to have an evening with a librarian and staff assistant present to answer these questions.”
Similar to Kinlaw’s event “Silent Book Club” held earlier this semester, Research Night is a new event created for the school year that seeks to not only provide community, but also show students how to properly research topics for assignments.
The event will show students different citation formats on papers, such as MLA, APA, Chicago and CSE Style. If this event is a success, Ervin also seeks to hold another one in the Spring Semester as well.
Ervin hopes that by hosting the event, students will feel less intimidated when asking for help.
“I’m hoping this lowers the barrier to entry and makes it easier for students to ask for help with their assignments without feeling anxious about seeking that help,” said Ervin. “Being that it’s in the evening, I am also hoping that this fits better into students’ schedules as well.”
Kinlaw Research Night will be held in the library Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all. If students have any questions regarding the event, they can contact Lauren Ervin at lauren.laumus@asbury.edu.
