With a scalding 6-2 record through the first half of their fall campaign, Asbury’s men’s soccer team have made a case for 2025 being one of the best years in a long while. As they enter the season’s midpoint, prior to incoming conference competition, multiple players are being recognized for their high-level individual performances amidst the team’s composite success.
For the third straight week, after coming up empty in the category to open the season, at least one Eagle has been named among the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) official players of the week.
The conference announces the accolade on social media on a weekly basis, most recently recognizing freshman Tyson Absher as rookie of the week. Absher, who leads the entire conference with eight goals on the year thus far, has now been featured on the awards list for two weeks straight. Last go around, when he was dubbed offensive player of the week, another Eagle joined him, Crosby Short. He who took home the defensive title adjacent to Absher’s scoring recognition.
Together, the two made up the majority of the CCS’s weekly head-nods, representing an overtly impressive run for a team that finished last season at 10-8-3 when the dust had settled. While that tally is far from disappointing, and this season has a long way to go yet, the Eagles eclipsing half their win total just over a third into the new season can only be taken as a positive indicator for their trajectory.
With their next match set at Piedmont University on Saturday, Oct. 4, in Demorest, Ga., Asbury will kick off their final month of competitive play before the CCS Tournament signals the finale of yet another season at the end of October, followed shortly thereafter by the looming NCCAA Regionals in November.
While it wouldn’t be wise to get ahead of the team themselves and assume the year ends up as a full net positive, the Eagles’ current standing — including their near-constant awarded recognitions — suggests a roster headed for a potentially special finish. They’ll have to finish off their final month with strength, although everything about the team’s play up to now has suggested that they’ll do exactly that.
