While Eagles’ athletics doesn’t end with the semester (we’ll get to that), a series of highlights and recognition are in order for two of the best stories you may have missed with Asbury sports in Spring 2025.
Record-breaking Bonow
Out of the men’s swimming circle, freshman Ethan Bonow set multiple school records in his first year competing as an Eagle. Not only did he set a new best for the school in the 100 Freestyle, finishing first with a time of 45.56, but he also became the first Asbury athlete ever to be dubbed an NCAA All-American. With a potential three years of swimming still ahead of him, Bonow is on track to become one of the most storied student-athletes to ever set foot in the Luce.
Women’s hoops turnaround
After posting an unfortunate 3-8 record in their first 11 games, the women’s basketball team battled back in historic fashion to finish the season with a more than impressive 20-11 record. Their 12-game midseason win streak is among the most lengthy of any Asbury team this year, and given that the team got to cut down the nets after winning the Mideast Region Championship at the end of the season to boot, their turnaround is truly one for the books.
As far as what continues into the summer, a few sports will have to wait an extra week or two to wrap up their Spring ‘25 campaigns.
Tennis
Both men’s and women’s tennis will stick around to compete in the NCAA Championships, May 8-11, in a location that has yet to be determined. Each group will look to finish off their solid seasons up to this point in victorious fashion on the biggest stage of the year.
Track and Field
Eagles track and field will hang back through the end of May for their own end-of-season tournament, in the form of the NCAA DIII Outdoor National Championship between May 22 and 24. This takes place just weeks after their upcoming NCCAA Outdoor National Championship, a penultimate competition, which will begin on May 7.
Baseball
Asbury baseball (7-24) is looking to end their season on a positive note with a string of tournament outings that begin at the end of April and run through most of May, culminating in the NCAA DIII World Series, beginning on May 30 and going through June 5. They’ll face regional and conference outings beforehand, providing the team ample opportunity to compete and prepare.
Softball
Asbury’s softball team (18-12) will take part in the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament between April 30 and May 3. The unit will look to capitalize on a solid season’s worth of momentum to this point and finish strong down the final stretch, less than one week after the academic semester ends.
