Asbury softball honors seniors

The Asbury softball team returned home to Wilmore, hosting Shawnee State University and celebrating and honoring their three senior players. Asbury showed their endurance in game one of the doubleheader, taking a win over the Bears 3-0. The Eagles went on to fall short in game two, in a competitive ballgame ending 3-1.

AU recognized three seniors for their senior day celebration this past Tuesday afternoon, April 11. Softball Captains Abigail Fletcher, Olivia Palasek, and Olivia Judy were the three Eagles honored.

Game one was led offensively by senior captain, Olivia Judy, as she went 2-3 at bat. Junior Taylor Enlow also grabbed a hit going 1-2 at the plate. Sophomore Josie Deatherage took the mound for Asbury in the first game and grabbed her second shutout of the season, only allowing four hits while grabbing four strikeouts. Although The Eagles did not score any more than three runs in the game, their lockdown defense, led by Deatherage, shut out the Bears and held them to just four hits. With the strikeouts from Tuesday, Deatherage totals 38 strikeouts on the year, leading Asbury.

Game two looked different than the first with Asbury only grabbing four hits collectively, and one run. Enlow grabbed her third triple of the season to help aid the Eagles’ singular run of the contest. Asbury was the first to bring home a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Enlow was brought in by a sacrifice out to second by Judy. Shawnee State came back around in the top of the fifth, tacking on two runs to take the lead 2-1. The Bears kept their lead by shutting Asbury down for the remainder of the game and bringing in one more of their own runs to end the contest 3-1.

After their win in game two, your Eagles moved to a 8-22 record.
