Byrd makes history for women’s lacrosse

Senior attacker Ashley Byrd scored her 100th goal for the Lady Eagles lacrosse program against Life University on Feb. 27.

The Evansville, Indiana native was 2 goals short of 100 going into the Life game and Byrd knew that scoring wasn’t going to be a breeze. “I … knew they were a very hard team to put goals on them,” she said.

Byrd scored four goals in the Life game. The constant encouragement from her mother helped Byrd focus on the task at hand. “Every game my mom says, ‘Just play your game.’”

Byrd became the first Lady Eagle in program history to reach 100 goals.

“It feels awesome, I wouldn’t have gotten to this point without my past and present teammates for pushing me and making me a better player,” Byrd said.

“It just reassures me that I am a good player, that every travel team I played on, every private session, all the hard moments I had led up to this accomplishment.”

Byrd and the Lady Eagles play again on March 13 against St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
