Flag display honors lives lost on 9/11

Small American flags can be seen spread across Reasoner Green this morning.

The display is organized annually by members of Asbury Student Congress (ASC) in memory of those killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.  Each flag on the green represents a life lost.

Currently, the Student Governance (SGA) branch of ASC creates this display. They are following the lead of a former student who would gather a group of friends and place the flags on the green. The student graduated, so now SGA completes the project.

Viewing the flags gives students, many of whom were not yet born or too young to remember, the opportunity to reflect on the events of 19 years ago.“It gives us an opportunity to honor the lives lost in the tragic events on 9/11 that changed our country and the world,” said Student Body President, senior Demarion Johnson. “Many of the current students on campus were not born yet or do not have a clear memory of the day — so [the flags on the Green] give us time to learn about American history and its significance of what happened not too long ago.”
