Women’s Soccer
Traveling to Pittsburg to take on the Celtics of Carlow University, the Lady Eagles came out with a solid win. With an ending score of 4-1, three consecutive goals came from freshman Mia Weirsema in the second half. Senior Meredith Ury scored the fourth and final goal for the Eagles. Sophomore Toria Howard was awarded the game ball after playing her best game of the season in the holding midfield position.
Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles left Pittsburg, PA on a loss to Point Park University, moving their record to 5-3. Meredith Ury scored a goal in the 22nd minute, her seventh goal of the season. The Pioneers tied the game in the 64th minute and an overtime goal from Megan Kuntz ended the game. Asbury’s next game will on Oct. 11 at home against Brescia University.
Men’s Soccer
In a matchup that led to overtime, the Asbury Eagles came out with a 3-2 victory over Berea College. Ending the first half with three times more fouls than Berea, and being outshot 6-5, the Eagles got it together for the second half. Junior Jesse Peterson and senior Adam Howard both scored to tie up the game. Ending regulation tied 2-2, Asbury entered their second overtime this season. The fifth and final goal came in the 109th minute from senior Chris Israel.
Women’s Volleyball
On Sept. 30, the Eagles stretched their winning streak to twelve on the road against University of Rio Grande. They fell short in the first and third sets to the Red Storm, but senior Sarah Sterling led the Eagles from being down 4-0 to up 9-7, and eventually to the win.
They captured their thirteenth straight victory against Hanover College. The Panthers stood no chance as the Eagles took the win in three straight sets (25-18; 25-23; 25-19). Their record stands at 23-6 on the season as they await their next match against Illinois Wesleyan on Oct. 11.
Women’s Tennis
On Oct. 1, the Lady Eagles traveled to Berea College to take on their former KIAC opponent, where they pulled out a 3-6 victory over the Mountaineers. For Asbury, the wins came from a no. 3 doubles victory and 2-6 singles matches. Sophomore Victoria Horseman had this to say, “I felt the team played really well. Whenever we play Berea, there’s always a sense of rivalry between the teams. Last year’s matches were super close, but this time we just sealed the win fast. We all showed up to play.” The next match for the Lady Eagles will be at home on Oct. 10 against Brescia University.
Cross Country
The men’s and women’s Cross Country team traveled to Louisville, Ky. on Oct. 4 to compete in the Greater Louisville Cross Country classic. In the 8K, the men’s team finished in 37th place, with an average time of 29:06:47. Sophomore Caleb Woodard held the best time for the Eagles with 28:30:45. In the 5K, the women’s team finished in 14th place overall, with an average time of 20:17:43. Sophomore Katy Falkenberg held the top time for the Eagles coming in at 19:34:97.
