Asbury’s Intramurals will host an upcoming 3-on-3 men’s and women’s basketball tournament on March 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Luce Center Gym.
Intramurals are organized sports leagues and tournaments centered on student participation. They allow students to take a break from their studies to socialize and compete against their peers in sports or activities they like.
The upcoming basketball tournaments will consist of a men’s A and B league and a women’s league, and the tournament will be double elimination. While students are free to choose anyone to play on their teams, past or current basketball players are only allowed to play in the A league. Additionally, students are only allowed one varsity player on a team or two junior varsity players.
There will be gift card prizes for the teams that finish in the top three. For first place, players will be awarded 50 dollars per team member. For second place, it will be 25 dollars per player, and third-place players will be given 10 dollars per player.
“This is the first time we have hosted a 3v3 tournament since I have been on campus, and the first one I believe since COVID,” said intramural sports coordinator Leyton Greenly. “March is famous for March Madness and we hoped to bring that basketball craze to campus by hosting the 3v3 tournament.”
While intramurals host many different kinds of sports and tournaments every year, this is the first time they are organizing a basketball tournament like this.
If students have any questions regarding the tournament or intramural sports, they can contact jonathan.waterman@asbury.edu or intramurals@asbury.edu. Whether students choose to support their friends or get in on the action themselves, the basketball tournament will be held this Friday at 6:30 p.m.
