Upcoming Christmas events students can expect at Asbury University

As the end of the fall semester comes into sight, Asbury University is hosting a variety of events for students to attend, allowing them to experience the holiday spirit around campus.

The first event the campus is holding is a chapel focused entirely on Christmas music, which will take place Dec. 3 during regular chapel time. The university states on its website, “Gather with us in Hughes to sing Christmas carols at Christmas Music Chapel to get into the holiday spirit!” Those who cannot attend the chapel in person can also watch online through Asbury’s website. The chapel will feature a variety of musical styles, including a handbell choir, as well as hymnals.

The second holiday-themed event the campus is holding is titled “Christmas in the Stuce,” which is being held Dec. 4 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Asbury states that the event is “the place to mingle, eat some treats and knock out some Christmas shopping!” The event will host a variety of different holiday treats and miscellaneous crafts that students can acquire during the event. It is also the last event held at the Student Center this school semester.

For the final chapel of the semester, Asbury President Dr. Kevin J. Brown, his wife Maria Brown and others are holding “Christmas with the Browns,” an annual tradition the president holds to finish off chapel for the semester, and for students to feel in the spirit of the holidays before finals happen in the next week. The president in previous years has focused on themes such as love and togetherness during the holidays. In previous years, Brown partnered with Asbury alum Sam Santrock to host a Christmas-themed story time for students to enjoy during chapel. With Santrock graduated, however, it is yet to be seen if this tradition will continue for this school year.

To conclude the year, the Music and English departments are holding “Songs of the Season,” a yearly event where both departments provide a time of seasons greetings for students before finals begin the next Monday. The event is being held the same day as Christmas with the Browns, Dec. 5, from 7:30-9 p.m. It will take place in Hughes Auditorium and include songs centered around the season, as well as poetry and reflection centered around the holiday season.

Following these events, finals for students will begin the following Monday, Dec. 8, beginning at 8 a.m. These will conclude on Thursday, and students without permission will need to leave campus that Friday, Dec. 12, by 10 a.m. Classes will begin for new and returning students on Jan. 12, at 8 a.m., which will begin the Spring Semester.
