To get in the spirit of the holidays, Jessamine County Public Library (JCPL) is holding a variety of events for the community to participate in.
The first event is titled “Holiday Events,” which will be held Dec. 4 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. JCPL is using the arts and crafts event as a time for teens and adults in Jessamine County a chance to meet others and have a fun time creating different holiday-themed accessories. They say officially on the website, “Ready to get in the holiday spirit? Come make several different kinds of ornaments, including beaded snowflakes, ugly sweaters and more!” They continue, “This is a great opportunity to donate an ornament you make to our JCPL communiTREE and also to make holiday gifts. All materials will be provided and no experience is necessary.”
The event requires community patrons to register, which they can do on JCPL’s official website. Registration closes on Dec. 4, at the start time of the event. The event will be held at the library itself, which is located at 600 South Main St., in Nicholasville. People can also contact the library itself via their phone number, (859) 885-3523. They can also contact event organizer Jacqueline Cooper at her email jcooper@jesspublib.org.
Another event the library is holding for members of the community is the Artisan Fair, which is being held Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. An arts and crafts event for all ages, the library states the event is “a celebration of local talent and craftsmanship.” The website explains that “This year, we’re excited to bring together a diverse group of local artists, each demonstrating their unique crafts and offering their exquisite wares for sale.” It followed by stating, “Watch artisans at work as they transform raw materials into beautiful creations before your eyes. Browse and purchase one-of-a-kind items, from hand-thrown pottery to bespoke jewelry and beyond. Engage with the creators, learn about their processes and discover the stories behind their art.” Alongside the art, “Food trucks and live music will also be available to make your experience even more enjoyable.”
This event is being hosted by Kate Irwin, who can be reached at kirwin@jesspublib.org.
For their final event of the holidays, JCPL is holding their Community Holiday Dinner, in partnership with the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition (JCHC). “Enjoy a little gift from JCPL and JCHC [by] stopping in and picking up holiday meal to go and a take-and-make ornament craft bag,” they state on the website. It continues, “If you have some time, stay a while! Sit down, listen to holiday music, eat with us and make an ornament to add to the Communi-TREE. JCPL will also offer a selection of gently used books for you to keep.” No registration is required for the event, and all citizens of the community are welcome.
The event is being held Dec. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. If interested in further information, people can also contact event organizer Leslie Lehman at llehman@jesspublib.org.
