The last full month of Asbury Athletics in the fall semester is reaching the midway point, and while it’s a relatively scarce weekend, the units that do play each have some level of competitive importance to bear. Here’s the latest regarding Eagles sports.
Men’s Basketball
After opening their season the previous weekend against Centre College at home, the Asbury men’s basketball team will host a double-header in Wilmore on Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15.
Berry College will duel with the Eagles first, before Muskingum University closes out the weekend for the purple and white. Given the early-season nature of these two games, Asbury still has ample time to make the most of their season, regardless of the impending result.
Cross Country
Asbury’s cross country squad will wrap up their season on Nov. 15 at the NCAA DIII Great Lakes Regional Championship in Louisville, at 10 a.m.
The match serves as the final test for the collective team before competition ceases until next fall. Having finished 3rd overall and 3rd individually in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Championship two weekends ago, the team is looking to continue their hot streak and finish similarly strong.
Volleyball
On the weekend of Nov. 14 and 15, the increasingly dominant Asbury volleyball team will compete at the one-seed in their own CCS Championship.
Their first game will come against the winner of #4 LaGrange and #5 Huntingdon, serving a favorable matchup and a good opportunity to advance further in the tournament. Either way, the team (at 20-7, 15-1) have put together a program-defining run up to this point that will positively define them for the foreseeable future. An 11-game win streak is impressive, no matter how it ends.
