The English Department will host the Campfire Tales event, which will be held Oct. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Aldersgate Outdoor Stage.
The event was created by Professor Andrea Nasfell, who wanted to give students the chance to showcase their creative writing talents in a casual environment. The event will resemble the classic tradition of telling stories around the campfire.
“It is so fun, and with the fire pit and all that, it just seemed like such a fun thing to do,” explained Nasfell. “The real intent for our event was to provide an opportunity for creative writing students to show what they can do, and give it a theme so people can focus on what they’re submitting.”
The theme for the stories at the event are fall, spooky, eerie or suspenseful. Students can either read a story or tell one of their own.
Aside from student stories, other performances include professors like Dr. Strait, who will read from “Ode to Autumn” by John Keats. Additionally, while students are listening to the stories by the fire, s’mores and other snacks will be provided.
Other events, like Songs of the Season, have readings performed, but the Campfire Tales event allows original student work to be the center of the event.
“We just really wanted to have an opportunity where students’ work could be featured,” said Nasfell. “I hope students are excited about submitting some stories.”
While submissions have already closed, all students are invited to attend Campfire Tales on Oct. 28.
