Asbury Athletics – Opening October

As midterms rapidly approach (best of luck), Asbury Athletics continues to chug along as if you don’t have a Spanish exam next week. Here’s the slate to study for the opening weekend of October.

Cross Country

Following the annual Spoon Fiercely Faithful XC Meet to end September at home, the Eagles cross country team are set to compete on a larger stage at the University of Louisville. The match takes place on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Tom Sawyer Park.

This marks the team’s penultimate match before the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Championship on Halloween.

Men’s Soccer

At 6-2, Asbury men’s soccer are well on their way to a potentially historical season as wins continue to stack and, in comparison, losses remain relatively stagnant. Their next opportunity to build towards double-digit wins comes on Oct. 4 in Demorest, Ga., against Piedmont University.

In addition to a win, the squad will work to extend their individual streak of having at least one player be named a CCS conference player of the week to a mind-blowing month straight. The Eagles deserve a hats off at this early nexus in their season.

Women’s Soccer

Holding a record of 4-3-2, the women’s soccer team have managed to keep their heads above water by avoiding a loss at home up to this point in the season. On the other hand, they haven’t managed to win on the road yet.

While they won’t get a chance to break that mold this weekend, a home game on Oct. 4 against LaGrange College should at least assist the team in further separating their win numeral from the more negative adjacent one.

Tennis

Throughout the entirety of the incoming weekend, from Friday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 5, Asbury’s tennis collective will be competing in Memphis, Tenn., at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

With this being the last scheduled event for the unit, they’ll look to go out with a positive impact following what has been a relatively short season, especially following last week’s 8-1 loss at the Berry Invitational.

Volleyball

After starting the season with only two wins through eight games, Asbury’s volleyball group has shown a little life, winning two straight games in an attempt to even out their now less-lopsided record.

With two road games on Oct. 5, at Belhaven University and Agnes Scott College respectively, the Eagles will look to pull their win-loss tally to an even mark for the first time since the season began.
