After a break for the summer, on Sept. 19, the house lights will dim in Asbury’s Greathouse Theatre once again as actors and actresses take the stage for an original student cabaret entitled “Walking into a New World.”
The show will be put on by theatre majors and minors and was produced by Rebekah (Bek) Askey with Summer Hollis as vocal producer. “Essentially, the show is a collaborative production, with all 11 actors getting to contribute to the vision of the show. It’s a cool opportunity to see the creativity of every person in the cast as we put together our songs,” said Jazmyn Lorentzen, a theatre major involved in the production.
“The theme of the cabaret is about discovering that life becomes what you make of it,” stated Lorentzen. “We want our audience to be taken through a journey of hitting rock bottom to finding that there’s more to life than you thought. Our songs are all from musicals, ranging from Come From Away to SpongeBob to Anastasia. It’s quite an arrangement,” she continued.
“Walking into a New World” will be a time full of laughs, surprises and sincere feelings. “Although it’s mostly for fun, our show has a heart to it that we can’t wait for our audience to see,” stated Lorentzen.
Although the Jr./Sr. Retreat happening on Sept. 19 and 20 will mean that some students won’t be able to see it on Saturday night, there will also be a Thursday evening performance, so they can see the show before they leave for the weekend.
Performance will be Sept. 18, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Greathouse Theatre. Don’t miss the opportunity to step into this new world with the cast and crew.
