As the first full month of school comes to a close, the office of Student Intercultural Life is holding one last event to celebrate, International Board Game Night on Sept. 25.
“Our goal with International Board Game Night is to get a bunch of different board games from all over the world and allow students to come play them,” said Lydia Roy, vice president of Student Intercultural Programs (SIP). “I don’t really know anyone who doesn’t like board games.”
The event will be held in the Stuce Map side at 6 p.m., and will have games from all around the world, with places like Asia, Africa and Latin America represented. Games such as spoons, chess, and different card games will be offered to students. There will also be snacks and drinks , which will represent different cultures from around the world.
The event resembles last year’s event held by SIP titled the “International Cartoon Night,” overseen by then Vice President of SIP, Kourtney Kawata. “Kourtney put on international cartoon night and it was a huge hit, and everyone loved it because it brought them back to their childhood.” Roy said. “It’s a great experience just to learn and play and then hang out with peopleThen you’ve made new friends and know a new game at the end of the night.”
Roy expressed her hope that the event would have effects on campus beyond International Board Game Night. “I hope this brings us together as a campus,” she said. “I hope it opens a door to conversation, curiosity and allows students to ask questions about cultures or just people’s lives in general.”
