As the first month of the school year begins for the Known Class, they will also have the opportunity to create their own class cabinet for this school year. The positions that students will be running for will be president, vice president (VP), treasurer, publicist, chaplain, activities director and the Student Intercultural Program (SIP) representative.
The positions of president, VP, SIP Representative and activities director will be directly voted on by Known Class members. The positions for treasurer, publicist, and chaplain will be chosen by the class sponsors through a series of interviews.
The interest meeting for these positions will be held on Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. in Kinlaw Boardroom. The interest meeting is mandatory to run for a position. Students must also get 25 signatures from other Known Class members, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, have signatures from the registrar’s office and the Student Development’s office to verify their GPA, sign a statement of faith with the university and receive approval via the VP of Student Government Association (SGA).
After this, students will have about two weeks to campaign before giving speeches regarding their candidacy on Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. on the map side of the STUCE, with the event being catered as well. At the conclusion of this, students will be allowed to vote for the candidates of their choosing, with the winners being announced via email on Sept. 27.
Commenting on Class Cabinet opportunities for freshmen, Student Body President Zach Fazio stated, “Freshman Class Cabinet provides a unique outlet where new students can explore their different giftings in leadership, organization and project management in a safe and friendly environment for developing essential skills needed in life.”
As for his own experience with the Restored Class Cabinet, Fazio said, “For me personally, the class cabinet provided an essential crucible that molded and matured me.” He followed by saying, “It gave me the perspective, passion and soft skills needed to lead our campus community as Student Body President.”
If curious regarding these positions, students can contact class sponsors Kaitrin Bolling and Sam Omer of the Restored Class, VP of SGA Ashton Montgomery or class advisors Jarred Miller and Emma Ortiz through their Asbury emails.
