While little is going on athletically at Asbury this week, the few events that are taking place are as worth any students’ time as ever. They are as follows.
Golf
The golf team placed fifth (tied for ninth individually) in their last match in Union Grove, Ala., between Sept. 5 and 6 at the SU Roger Lundy Alabama Invasion. While a solid finish, room for improvement certainly exists.
Their next opportunity to do so will come between Monday, Sept. 15 and Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the NCCAA Mideast Regional in Prestonburg, KY. The conference-level competition will provide the Eagles a chance to show out on the biggest stage yet this season.
Men’s Soccer
Asbury men’s soccer (4-1) have started out this new year scalding hot, looking to reaffirm their potential after a so-so season last time around. As a part of a four game stretch at home, they’ll take on Indiana University East and Spalding University on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Monday, Sept. 22, respectively.
If they take advantage of their home crowd, the squad could be looking at a serious early-season record boost as other teams are still fighting to find their footing. Take an inch and a mile while you can, Eagles.
Women’s Soccer
With a similarly strong start to the men’s team at 3-1-1, the women’s soccer unit have just one game over the same weekend, although it is also in Wilmore. In their case, Huntingdon College will come into town on Sept. 20 for an early afternoon game, slated to start at 1 p.m.
After that, the team will look forward to a three-game road stretch across three different states, visiting Center College (Ky.), Wesleyan College (Ga.) and Franklin College (Ind.). Much like the men, they’ll look to make the most of their time at home.
Volleyball
Despite notching two back-to-back wins, Asbury’s volleyball team still sits at a slightly underwhelming 2-3 mark on the season. Their next chance to recover comes in dual-fashion, with an away match against Anderson University on Sept. 20 being the first option.
After that, they’ll travel home to face Hanover College on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Even given their rocky start, the team has plenty of season left to play, and ample opportunity to get ahead once more.
