In line with other dorm events such as “Club Trustees,” “Johnson Christmas,” “Kresge Maze,” and Glide Crawford’s “Hallywood: A Night at the Movies,” Aldersgate is holding their yearly event, dubbed the “Aldersgate County Fair” on Sept. 27.
“The county fair will be just a good old time with lots of different activities that are country fair themed,” said Emily Leininger, the residence director of Aldersgate. “We will have a classic dunk tank, a pie in the face, lemonade, fair food like popcorn and hot dogs. We’ll also have a sack race and corn hole. It’s just going to be a good old get-together with a small-town kind of feel.”
The county fair resembles Aldersgate’s event last school year, the “Aldersgate Renaissance fair,” which was largely successful and attracted many students from all across campus. As for the theme change, Leininger said, “I was for team Renaissance Fair, however the event is run by the RAs, and they were really excited with the county fair theme, and so I’m going along with them.”
Abby Stephenson, who serves as the assistant resident director of Aldersgate, also has great expectations for the event. “I hope students can have just a night while having fun with friends that is a different vibe than you usually get from campus,” she said. “You’ll have a mix of having a fun time with games and competition with each other, while you’ll also have the community aspect of seeing everyone from all around campus come together and have food and competition, and be a fun hangout time.”
Leininger also expressed great expectations as well. “Our prayer is that students feel welcomed, have fun and have a sense of belonging. I hope students walk away thinking ‘that was a fun time’ and that they get a taste of this side of campus,” she said. “We really try to be intentional with thinking through things for the men to do, and would want to come over here because we know this is the ‘girls side of campus’ but we don’t want to be exclusive.”
Leininger and Stephenson are also trying to recruit other staff members from around campus to be involved in the event. This is especially shown with the dunk tank, where Student President Zach Fazio has already committed to being dunked, and Leininger is also attempting to recruit other campus staples, such as President Kevin Brown, Interim Vice President of Student Life Joe Bruner and head of Campus Safety Eric Walsh, to commit to being dunked as well.
The event will also involve tickets that students can get from various events that they can cash in for raffles and prizes offered at the event.
Aldersgate County Fair will be held by Aldersgate, and in front of Kresge dorm, on Saturday, Sept. 27, and is sure to be a good time for students.
