42nd Annual Golf Scramble set to benefit local children in need

Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Homes (KUMCH) is set to host their annual Golf Scramble on Friday, Sept. 5. This year’s go-around marks the 42nd iteration of the event.

The event, which sold out in no time, pushes all proceeds toward covering school supplies, medical expenses , clothing, food and other such necessities for children with abusive and traumatic histories. The contestants are mainly adult golfers who have a passion for both the sport and attached charity work. It’s a great way for anyone involved in the sport to give back by simply entering the event and playing.

Additionally, prizes and contests are held throughout the day for contestants. In teams of four, contestants paid a fee to enter. The event begins in the morning and will stretch well into the afternoon. Golfers will compete for longest drive, putt, closest to the pin and, of course, to triumph as a winning team in one of the individual competitions. With a bevy of recognitions and awards at hand, golfers will have more than one opportunity to leave their personal stamp on an event that is designed to benefit beyond the game itself.

The golf scramble is a more recent (in relative terms) charitable addition to the wider organization of KUMCH , which, for 154 years, has served children in similar ways. KUMCH began as an orphanage before expanding their horizons into similar systems like independent living, outpatient services, an adoption program and more. Run by President and CEO Rev. Dr. Julie Hager Love, KUMCH has even expanded and held camps, campus ministries and missions, too.
If you’d like to donate to the organization or view the results of the golf scramble, you can visit their website at kyumh.org or call at 859-523-3001. This well-renowned golfing event just scratches the surface of KUMCH’s impact on children in the surrounding community. Their more than a century of experience in charity work goes well beyond above-par performance on the green.
