What’s something you wish more people knew about the swim team?

If I could communicate one thing, it would be that on top of the 18-20 hours a week we put in the water, we have to practice during times when other students are doing homework, hanging out, or sleeping (i.e. waking up at 4:45am for morning practice). Swimmers can’t always have schedules similar to their friends; we often have to spend most of our free time catching up on homework. If you are friends with a swimmer, a word of advice: even when it seems they don’t have time for you, know that they really want to hangout…just not at 1 in the morning.

This is your third year on the swim team. As one of the older members, what lessons would you pass on to younger members of the team?

At this point in swimming, your body knows exactly what to do even if you don’t. You swim your best when you go out and leave it all in the water. Being able to relax and enjoy yourself is the best way to have success in the pool.

How are you looking to improve for next season?

For the past three years, I always seemed to have this strange desire to wait until the last minute to qualify for nationals. I’d love to make a cut in the fall semester next time, but we’ll see!
